Our madder root extract is a pure natural dye, extracted from the dried root of Rubia Cordifolia.
It can be used immediately for dyeing, soaking and boiling out as is not necessary when using normal madder root.
Of course, the material to be dyed must still be pre-treated normally.
Depending on the desired colour, 1 - 8% rubia powder is now dissolved in warm water and stirred very well. The required amount of water is heated up to 30-40 degrees in the dye pot and at this temperature the dissolved powder is added and stirred again very well. Fill up the dye bath with cold water and let wool into the dye bath and increase the temperature to about 70-80 degrees, at this temperature let it steep for another hour. Take out the wool and rinse well with soapy water after it has cooled down.
Please note, Rubia Cordifolia is slightly browner than Rubia Tinctorum, therefore strong red tones are more likely to be achieved with an ammonia treatment or an addition of cochineal.
Not suitable for consumption.
